Sant'Eufemia a Maiella

Eufemia a Maiella is a municipality with 282 inhabitants and is located near Caramanico Terme and locality in the province of Pescara. The entire territory of the municipality lies within the boundaries of the National Park of Maiella.

History

The history of the village of Saint Eufemia a Maiella began in 1064th At that time, the Count Berardo donated to a local feudal lords of the Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria a piece of land. Under the name of Santa Fumia the village was first mentioned in writing in 1140. In the twentieth century, the church suffered a crisis of agriculture and pastoralism, which led to a gradual decline in population. In 1951 the community numbered 1453 inhabitants still until 1981, the population had dropped to 474. The reason for this is the emigration to the larger towns and cities.
