Geographical location

Schuttertal lies in the valley of the Schutter on the western edge of the Black Forest in 250 to 750 meters.

Since the local government reform in 1974, the community Schuttertal consists of the formerly independent communities Schuttertal, Dörlinbach and Schweighausen. Administrative headquarters of the total community is Dörlinbach (Town Hall ). Since 1 January 1973 the municipalities are in Schuttertal part of Ortenau circle. History

While the district Schuttertal once, like the neighboring community Seelbach, belonged to the aristocratic influence of the Hohengeroldseck, Dörlinbach and Schweighausen were part of the secular territory of the monastery Ettenheimmünster or the Bishopric of Strasbourg (now the Archdiocese of Strasbourg). Dörlinbach and Schweighausen fell in 1803 to the Grand Duchy of Baden, Schuttertal until 1819.

Mid-19th century, emigrated due to floods and famines, about 900 citizens from Schuttertal, Dörlinbach and Schweighausen in the United States. Many settled along the Ohio down in southern Indiana.

Dörlinbach
