Geography

Geographical Location

The state-approved climatic health resort Seelbach is located in the Valley of the muck of the Black Forest, southeast of Lahr and north of Schuttertal, at the foot of the castle Hohengeroldseck.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Fries Home, to the east of Biberach, to the south and the city Schuttertal Ettenheim and to the west by tipping home and the city of Lahr.

Community structure

The municipality consists of the villages Seelbach Seelbach, Schoenberg and Wittelbach. The spatial boundaries of the suburb Schoenberg are identical to those of the former township. The spatial boundaries of the suburb Seelbach close the boundaries of the former municipality and the area is divided at Steinbach (formerly district Lahr -Reichenbach ) a. The boundaries of the district Wittelbach close the boundaries of the former municipality Wittelbach, the vice unincorporated of Schuttertal tines Hubhof and Schmetterhof, and the tines Lenzlisberg, who formerly belonged to the district Seelbach, a. The official designation of the districts is done by preceding the name of the community and by hyphen readjusted the word " district " and the name of each hamlet. The districts Schoenberg and Wittelbach also form villages within the meaning of Baden-Württemberg municipal code, each with its own mayor and Ortschaftsrat as its chairman. History

Seelbach is the first time in 1179 in a document by Pope Alexander III. (1159-1181) noted, to be confirmed in the monastery of St. Georgen numerous possessions, including the Ecclesia Selle Bach. The first lords of the manor were the masters of Lützelhardt. Later, the men of Geroldseck took over the manorial system. Since 1455, the place is a market town. 1634 Geroldsecker died and various other owners came Seelbach 1697 to the Counts von der Leyen. These were given by Napoleon in the early 19th century under the Act of Confederation, first the status of a principality, however, the 1819 was to become the Grand Duchy of Baden. There Seelbach was, as among of the Leyen, first seat of an office. 1834, the community lost its status as the administrative center and was in the top of Lahr, from 1939, the district Lahr was incorporated. Religions / denominations

In Seelbach there is the Roman Catholic parish of St. Nicholas with the store St. Peter and Paul in Wittelbach that since September 30, 2007, together with the parishes Reichenbach and Kuhbach the pastoral care unit " St. Francis "based in Seelbach form, and an evangelical church.

Schoenberg

Wittelbach

The name means " river of Witilo " (or " Witilin " or " Witolin "). The vernacular name " Mittelbach ", which also appears in documents is, etymologically misleading.

The Alemanni settled mainly the fertile, forest -free and dry foothills and penetrated hardly present in the Black Forest valleys. The Franks, however, began in the 9th century with the scheduled opening of the front Schutter. In the upper Schuttertal created settlements of the monastery Ettenheimmünster. Seelbach is the seat of the Agreed administrative community with the community Schuttertal.

The municipal elections on 7 June 2009 was as follows:

Mayor

The mayor is directly elected for a term of eight years. He is also chairman of the council.

Since 1983, a partnership with Zillebeke in Flanders, Belgium.

Culture and sights

Seelbach is located on the Black Forest Querweg Rottweil - Lahr, which takes in many sights.

Structures

In the center, named after the former Franciscan monastery Square are with Klosterbrunnen. The choir tower church of St. Peter and Paul from the 13th century is regarded as a landmark of Wittelbach. Seelbach is called the place of the five castles, of which 4 are obtained. These include the installation of the former moated castle Dautenstein with historical Bald mill, the ruins of the castle situated above the town and the ruins Lützelhardt Hohengeroldseck as well as the water-powered forge in Litschental. The village also lies the historic hostel to the lions.

Outside of Seelbach is the historic Tretenhof occupied in the 15th century and has had a checkered history.

Regular events

Based on the loaned in 1455 market right place annually in November, the St. Catherine's market place. Starting with a historical spectacle attracts market events up to 20,000 visitors at the three market days after the Seelbach. In particular, the booths of clubs and organizations Seelbachs provide for the special flair of the " Kätterlesmärkt ".

The " open-air games Seelbach " determine since 2004 in September, the cultural events. Under the direction of the Burgtheater actor Bruno Thost and his daughter Katja Thost -Hauser bring amateur actors from the entire Schuttertal together with a handful of professional performers well-known pieces such as " The 3 Musketeers ", " William Tell " or "Faust " on the stage in the monastery garden. Up to 2,000 spectators watched the annual performances.

Since 2007, is held annually in the summer of the 10 km long Seelbach- Schwarzwald- solstice run.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

Federal highway 415 ( Lahr / Schwarzwald- Biberach ( Baden) ) Seelbach connects with the national road network.

Seelbach was formerly the Mittelbadische railways connected ( to Lahr / Black Forest) to the national rail network. The circuit is, however, closed down long ago.

Educational institutions

Seelbach has a junior high school and an elementary and junior high school work, which were each placed in cooperative education center. There are also two Roman Catholic kindergarten and a kindergarten in sponsorship of the workers' welfare.

In the village there was also from 1982 to 2008 a civil service school of the federation (Heinz - throttle - education center ). Since August 2011, is located on the site of the AWO training center Tretenhof.
