Sinalunga

Sinalunga is a town with 12,476 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Siena, Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The town covers 78.60 km ². It is situated on the hills between the Chiana valley and the Ombrone Valley, approximately 47 km east of Siena. Neighboring municipalities are Asciano, Cortona ( AR), Foiano della Chiana (AR), Lucignano ( AR), Rapolano Terme, Torrita di Siena and Trequanda. The capital of the province, Sinalunga, divided into two parts: Sinalunga Paese is located on the hill with the historic old town, Pieve di Sinalunga contrast lies at the foot of this hill and was named after the Pieve di San Pietro ad Mensulas. Other districts are Bettolle, Farnetella, Guazzino, La Fratta, L' Amorosa, Rigaiolo, Rigomagno and Scrofiano.

In bed Olle is the for the province of Siena major motorway junction Valdichiana - Bettolle- Sinalunga that connects Siena with the A1 (part of the Autostrada del Sole ). Sinalunga itself is located on the railway line Empoli -Siena - Chiusi and operated by the Trasporto ferroviario Toscano branch line to Arezzo.

  • Convento di San Bernardino, convent, built in 1449, renovated in the 18th century, contains works by Sano di Pietro ( Cristo benedicente and Madonna del Rifugio ), Benvenuto di Giovanni ( Annunciation, 1470 ) and Guidoccio Cozzarelli ( Baptism of Christ, ca 1483, and Incoronazione della Vergine col Bambino tra i Santi Simone e Taddeo, 1486 ), Sinalunga Paese.
  • Pieve di San Pietro ad Mensulas, name -giving Pieve for the lower Pieve di Sinalunga.

Twinning

Sinalunga maintains since 2004 a partnership with the northern French town Ay, in the Champagne.
