Sub-regions of Finland

Seutukunta (Finnish; plural: seutukunnat ) or Ekonomisk region (Swedish; plural: ekonomiska RegioNER ) in Finland is the name given to a local authority in which several municipalities together, similar to the management communities or similar associations of municipalities in Germany.

They form a subdivision of the landscapes (Finnish Maakunta, swedish landskap ). In the scheme of the European Union, they are classified as Local Area units of the LAU level 1. In total there are 70 in Finland such administrative communities (as of 2012). They are made either from urban areas, several smaller urban centers, along with the surrounding rural areas or from rural communities. They work together, and others in the field of services, commercial policy and land use. They have no legal decision-making bodies, that is, the decision lies with the individual communities. Many communities, however, have ceded some of their powers to the administrative bodies of the Communities.

The Seutukunta were introduced in 1994. Their classification was made ​​on the basis of studies on the work of existing trails and community collaborations.
