Thüngersheim

Thüngersheim is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Würzburg. It is located at Main and is strongly influenced by the wine. With more than 200 hectares, it is one of the largest wine-growing villages in Franconia.

Geography

Geographical location

The location in the rain shadow of the Rhön and Spessart leads to rainfall between 550 and 600 mm per year. Thus, the middle Main valley is one of the driest areas in Germany. Southeast of Thüngersheim the nature reserve is Höhfeldplatte.

Neighboring communities

Thüngersheim bordered to the north Retzbach, on the northeast by Retzstadt, to the east by Günter life, to the south Veitshoechheim to the northwest and west by cell rings and Erlabrunn ( with the Main as the western district boundary).

History

  • Birth of the village during the first Frankish settlement phase, 530-700 AD
  • 1098: Thüngersheim is first mentioned.
  • 1154: The first vines are planted.
  • 1614: Completion of the parish church of St. Michael
  • 1803: Thüngersheim coincides with the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg to the Grand Duchy of Ferdinand of Tuscany.
  • 1814: The Grand Duchy of Würzburg ( in the Thüngersheim is then) falls in Bavaria.
  • 1870: Construction of a railway station with signal box. The wine transport thus shifted from Main road to rail.
  • 1930: Foundation of the wine cooperative Thüngersheim by 55 wineries
  • 1933: Construction of the barrage Erlabrunn
  • 1945: On March 16, the exported archive holdings of the church is destroyed in the bombing of Würzburg.
  • 1966: The majority of wineries decides to conduct the Land Consolidation (220 ha of vineyards in three sections ).
  • 1998: 900 years Thüngersheim

Religion

Confessions

Thüngersheim is a predominantly Catholic community ( parish church of St. Michael ). Since 2003, a parish communion with St. Maternus Güntersleben.

Kreuzberg pilgrimage

A prominent religious event is the Thüngersheimer Kreuzberg pilgrimage that year, to be held the festival Exaltation of the Cross (14 September ) once. It leads to the sacred mountain of the Franks, the Kreuzberg in the Rhön. She probably goes back to a vow from the time of the plague, and is demonstrated in the early 18th century. Today, it is performed by the re-established cross Brotherhood.

The council has 14 members (excluding First Mayor ). Of these, 4 are in the outdoors voters 6 of the CSU and the SPD 4.

Mayor

Since March 2008 ( local elections Bavaria ) Markus courtier ( CSU / Biirgerblock BB) is the incumbent mayor.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows the local patron St. Michael. It was awarded to the Municipality of Julius Real Mespelbrunn in 1581. On the breastplate the coat of arms can be seen which of Mespelbrunn.

Partner communities

A partnership exists with Saint- Aignan -de- Grand -Lieu, a French commune in the department of Loire-Atlantique.

Culture and sights

Structures

Among the monuments of the community belongs among others, the parish church of St. Michael. Of the former four gatehouses of the fortification ( wall ring around the Altort ) are obtained three: the Würzburg Gate, the Gate and the Retztstadter Hirtentor.

Thüngersheim is the seat of the wine cooperative, founded in 1930 Thüngersheim eG. With over 200 hectares of vineyards Thüngersheim is one of the largest wine-growing villages of Franconia.

Traffic

Thüngersheim is located on State Road 27 and on the railway line Würzburg- Gemünden. A Main border serves as a landing stage for passenger shipping. The bus Wuerzburg -Karlstadt or Würzburg- Retzstadt performs Thüngersheim

Farms 1998: 98 ( of which 65 farms under 2 hectares, 27 farms from 2 to 20 ha and 2 farms over 30 ha) 18 craft enterprises with 110 employees (31 March 1995)

Education

The only school is the primary school (up to the fourth grade ). The main part of the school no longer exists since the school year 2004/2005.
