Uebeschisee

Uebeschi is a municipality in the administrative district of Thun in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

The community Uebeschi, which extends over an area of ​​438 hectares, is situated in the moraine west of Thun, on the long hill trains between Aare plain and Stockhornkette, an approximately 670 meters high elevation, which was formed during the Ice Age. The landscape is dominated by drumlins, meadows, small woods and hedgerows and oaks. In between the beginning of the 20th century entsumpften, black and earthy former peat bogs. In higher areas of the drumlins have a rocky core. In the former quarry in Gisisalwald there are so-called clues on which this compact, containing quartz sandstone is visible. From a geological perspective, the community Uebeschi is in a molasse basin, known as the Helvetic nappe.

Named after the town of Uebeschisee is located a few hundred meters south of the village, however, belongs geographically to a larger part to the communities and farms Amsoldingen.

History

The name of the village, a field-names, can be determined somewhat ambiguous. Maybe he derives from the Old High German libicahe ( = place where the Marshmallow grows ). The marshmallow is a malvenähnliches healing herb that is referred to in Uebeschi still considered Ibsche. Maybe the name goes back but also on the Old High German iwa ( = yew ). The origin and meaning of the coat of arms are not known. It is first mentioned in 1780 and since the early 20th century, used as a municipal coat of arms.

Tourism

Uebeschi and the surrounding region is frequented by hikers and cyclists. So also the Camino de Santiago ( the pilgrimage to the grave of the Apostle James in Santiago de Compostela in Spain) performs Uebeschi. The signposted path leads from Amsoldingen from the elongated, panoramic hill, past the Uebeschisee. Before the village a fork in the track. The previously marked trail led right towards Längenbühl, over the Dittligsee and forestry. The new path on the left leads up through the village and continue on through Uebeschi Honegg and then by a former moraine into Guerbetal by Blumenstein.
