Pohlern

Pohlern is a municipality in the administrative district of Thun in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

The village lies at the northern foot of the Stockhornkette in the lower Stockental. Pohlern is heavily wooded in its southern part and is - the closer the stock horn is - always mountainous. The floor of the forest and Engiwald are the largest forest patches. On the northern slope of the Stockhornkette the main waters of the municipality spring - ( east to west ) the Engibach, the Teuffibach and Rutigraben. The hamlet of Upper Matt on the road between Oberstocken and Blumenstein today forms a kind of village center. Otherwise, you will find merely still groups of houses and farmsteads. Of the total municipality area of 9.89 km ² are 45.1% and 15.7 % forest or woodland unproductive area. Other 37.1 % is used for agriculture and only 2.1 % is built-up area.

The site is bordered to the south by Därstetten, in the southeast and east by Oberstocken, to the east by courts in Thun, on the northeast by Uebeschi and to the northwest and west by Blumenstein.

Population

The end of 2005 the congregation had 239 inhabitants.

Languages

The people speak in everyday life, a high Alemannic dialect, which belongs to the German dialects of Bern. At the last census in 2000 all German residents reported as the main language.

Religions - faiths

In earlier times, the entire population was a member of the Evangelical Reformed Church. Due to immigration from other regions in Switzerland and abroad and leaving the church, this has changed. Today ( as of 2000) are 90.27 % Evangelical Protestant and Roman Catholic Christians 1.33%. In addition, one finds 4.42% non-religious. 3.98% refusing to participate to their creed.

Origin - Nationality

Beginning of 2005 were 225 residents of the 219 ( = 97.33 %), Swiss citizen. At the last census, 99.56 % were Swiss nationals.

The voting shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 61.6 %, BDP 17.3 %, FDP 3.8 %, EDU 3.2 %, glp 2.3 %, pirates 2.1 %, SP 2.0 %, EPP 1.6 %, PNOS 1.4 %, CVP 1.2 %, Alps Parliament 1.1 %, 1.1 % animal party, GPS 0.9 %.

Traffic

The community is connected through the bus line 3 Thun- Oberstocken - Blumenstein of Public Transport STI to the network of public transport.

Pohlern lies on the road from Brodhüsi to Wattenwil. The nearest motorway junction is tuna -south on the A6.

Others

End of November 2006 tore a wolf in sheep Pohlern eight. This is only the second documented animal north of the Alps since the extinction.
