Schwendibach

Schwendibach is a municipality in the administrative district of Thun in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

The village lies on a northward sloping hillside south of the Zulg in the lower Zulgtal. It is located just east of the city of Thun and is the smallest municipality in terms of area of the whole administrative district. There is no village center. Of the total area of 149 ha community 71.5 % is used for agriculture. Other 17.9% - especially on the southern boundary of the municipality - is covered by forest and woodland and 10.6 % settlement area.

Schwendibach bordered to the south by the city of Thun, in the west and northwest by Steffi castle and in the northeast and east by Homberg.

Population

The end of 2005 the city counted 252 residents.

Languages

The people speak in everyday life, a high Alemannic dialect, which belongs to the German dialects of Bern. At the last census in 2000 gave 98.47 % German, 0.76 % French, and 0.38% Italian as the main language.

Religions - faiths

In earlier times the entire population belonged to the Evangelical Reformed Church. Due to immigration from other regions in Switzerland and abroad and leaving the church, this has changed. Today ( as of 2000) are 85.11 % and 3.44% Evangelical Protestant Roman Catholic Christians. In addition, there are 6.11% non-religious. 5.34 % of the population refusing to participate to their creed.

Origin - Nationality

Of the 261 residents in early 2005 were 255 (equivalent to 97.70 %), Swiss citizen. At the last census was 99.24 % Swiss nationals, including two dual citizens. Depending on a person possessed the German and Italian citizenship.

The voting shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 53.7 %, BDP 16.7 %, EDU 10.4 %, GPS 4.1 %, SP 3.8 %, EPP 3.3 %, FDP 2.9 %, glp 2.0 %, Jimy Hofer plus 1.1 %, CVP 0.8 %.

Traffic

The community is connected through the STI bus Thun- Teuffenthal grid of public transport.

The place is located on a road which leads from Thun to Teuffenthal. Nearest motorway junction Thun-Nord on the A6.
