Uruguayan Clásico

The list includes the football matches between the CA Peñarol and Club Nacional de Football all mandatory and Friendly matches between the first men's teams of the two most successful football clubs in Uruguay, Club Atlético Peñarol and the Club Nacional de Football. Both are - like the vast majority of other Uruguayan football clubs - located in the capital Montevideo.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, there is a very pronounced rivalry between the two clubs whose supporters the country traditionally splits and their games have ( called Clásicos ) an immense social value. It is the oldest football derby outside of the United Kingdom and is comparable only with the Argentine Superclásicos between CA and Boca Juniors CA River Plate on the American continent in its meaning.

The CA Peñarol came out of the Central Uruguay Railway Cricket Club ( CURCC ), which was founded in 1891 sports club for the workers and employees of the British railway company Central Uruguay Railway in Montevideo. It has its roots in the thus usually made of English immigrants factory workforce - a fact that applies to many South American and especially Uruguayan football clubs in the late 19th century. Nacional, however, stressed - similar to the Albion Football Club - in its statutes from the beginning to the national identity, the first Creole society in Latin America and the first football club in Uruguay, which was not founded or led by British was. The most striking and constant point of friction between the two clubs, especially between their followers, is the question of the oldest football club in Uruguay. The Club Nacional de Football founded in 1899 claimed this title for herself and argues that CA Peñarol was founded in 1913 as an independent football club and could not be considered as the successor of CURCC because it was wound up. CURCC was already eight years before Nacional. By legitimizing the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol and the Uruguayan government applies, however formally Peñarol as a legitimate CURCC successor in a line and thus the oldest football club in the country. Note: The Albion Football Club was founded in 1891 already almost four months before the CURCC, but finds in this issue often disregarded since the team now plays only in the third division.

Since the first meeting between the clubs in the summer of 1900, a total of 518 games were played in different competitions - the majority of them in the Amateur League and the 1932 resulting gaga own La Liga Profesional. Five games are indeed usually done with in the overall list, but flow due to crashes or its provisional character not in the Statistics with a. In addition, there were three games that were decided at the green table, because the opponent did not compete.
