Val-d'Or Foreurs
The Foreurs de Val- d'Or (English Val- d'Or Foreurs ) are an ice hockey team from Val- d'Or in Abitibi- Témiscamingue region, Quebec, Canada. The team, which was founded in 1993, plays in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, which is part of the Canadian Hockey League and plays its home games in the Centre Air Creebec from.
The former NHL player of the Quebec Nordiques, Pierre Aubry, was the first coach of the team that won in the 1997/98 and 2000/ 01 season the President's Cup. Twice they also participated in the tournament for the Memorial Cup in part: In the preliminary round, 1998, the team won a single game and missed the finals by 2001 it lost the final against the Red Deer Rebels with 5:6 in extra time.
In 1996, the Huskies de Rouyn -Noranda were established - thus the Foreurs got a rival in Northwest Québec ( Rouyn -Noranda is located about 100 km west of Val d' Or). The derby between the two teams represent a high point in the region and attract much larger crowds at.
