Vaux-les-Prés

Vaux- les- Prés is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vaux- les- Prés is located at an altitude of 250 m above sea level, about 11 km west of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the gently undulating countryside between the rivers of Doubs in the south and in the north Ognon slightly increased on the eastern edge of the valley of the Ruisseau de Noironte.

The area of ​​5:14 km ² municipal area includes a section south of the Ognon. The area is slightly undulating and mainly consisted of arable and meadow land; Forest areas, there are few ( including the Bois communal ). For drainage north to the Ognon the Ruisseau de Noironte flowing through an almost one kilometer wide valley, and its right tributary Ruisseau de Rix care. History

The municipality of Vaux- les- Prés was settled very early. In a cave in 1967 as arrowheads and bowls from the late Neolithic period were ( about 2500 BC) discovered during archaeological excavations remains. From the Late Bronze Age (around 500 BC) pottery fragments and coins found evidence of the presence of the Gallo- Roman culture.

Towards the end of the 11th century was founded on the hill of Vaux a church or a monastery, which formed the core of the settlement. In the Middle Ages, the village underwent various changes of ownership before it came by purchase to the Granvelle family in the 16th century. Together with the Franche -Comté Vaux came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. To avoid confusion with other communities of the same name, Vaux was officially renamed in 1961 in Vaux -les- Prés. Today Vaux- les- Prés is a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté d' Agglomà du Grand Besançon.

Attractions

The village church of Vaux- les- Prés, built in 1735 in the classical style and has a rich interior. Additional area attractions include the Lavoir ( wash house from 1903 ) and the castle, which was built in the 16th century, but today only consists of farm and barn and is in private ownership.

Population

With 356 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Vaux- les- Prés is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area between 80 and 120 people, a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1970s. Since then, the population has nearly tripled.

Economy and infrastructure

Vaux- les- Prés was well into the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village.
