Vellechevreux-et-Courbenans

Vellechevreux -et- Courbenans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vellechevreux -et- Courbenans situated at an altitude of 310 m above sea level, 8 km east of Villers Exel and 30 km east-southeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village road extends in a small valley on the northwestern edge of the hills, which stretches between the valleys of Ognon and Doubs.

The area of ​​9.14 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the hills southeast of the Ognontals. The central part of the area is crossed by the valley of the Ruisseau de la Prairie, which provides with its spring-fed streams for drainage to the northwest to Scey. Flanked the valley from the Bois Dessus ( to 372 m ) in the north, the plateau of Mignafans in the Northeast and the amount of Georfans in the southwest. The predominantly agricultural plateau is on average 360 m. It is built partly of limestone and partly of sandy- marly layers of the Lias. With a narrow tip, the municipality's area extends eastward over the height of Courbenans up in the headwaters of the Scey and on the plateau of the existing of a tough layer of chalk of the middle Jurassic period Bois de la Pérouse. Here the highest elevation of Vellechevreux -et- Courbenans is achieved with 493 m.

The double municipality consists of the two districts Vellechevreux (310 m ) in a Seitentälchen the Ruisseau de la Prairie and Courbenans (350 m) at the northern foot of the Bois de la Pérouse at a source stream of Scey. Neighboring communities of Vellechevreux -et- Courbenans are Senargent - Mignafans and Secenans in the north, Crevans -et -la- Chapelle- lès -Granges, Gémonval and Marvelise in the east, the south and Courchaton Georfans and Saint- Ferjeux in the West.

History

On the hallway La Pouge an important necropolis from the Merovingian period ( 7th and 8th century ) was discovered with about 120 graves. In the Middle Ages Vellechevreux and Courbenans belonged to the dominion Granges, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard. Together with the Franche -Comté reached both villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In 1807 merged Vellechevreux and Courbenans to double community. Since 2000 Vellechevreux -et- Courbenans is a member of the 33- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Villers Exel.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Germain- d'Auxerre originally dates from the 17th century but was extensively rebuilt in the 19th century. It has a rich interior, including statues and reliefs of the 18th century. Next to the church stands the Maison de Jean Finot, which was built in the 18th century. In Courbenans there is a house with an octagonal tower from the 16th century, which was once the Counts of Montbéliard as a hunting lodge.

Population

With 149 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vellechevreux -et- Courbenans one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1886 409 people were still counted ), then only relatively small fluctuations were recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

Vellechevreux -et- Courbenans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Today there are various operations of local small businesses, including in the sectors of transport and firing. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area and agglomeration Belfort -Montbéliard their work.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road D9, which runs from Héricourt to Villers Exel. Other regional road links exist with Lure and L' Isle- sur -le- Doubs.
