Vestvågøy is an island and a commune in the Fylke Nordland on the Lofoten Islands in Norway.

Location and data

The Vestvågøy commune has ( as of March 31, 2013 ) an area of 422 km ² and 10,882 inhabitants. Thus, it is the most populous area of the Lofoten and Vesterålen. The capital and administrative seat is Leknes with about 2700 inhabitants. Other major settlements are the places Gravdal, Stamsund and Ballstad. The highest elevation in the area of the municipality is the Himmeltindan ( 964 moh. ).

Transport links

Stamsund is pier of the daily schedule, the Hurtigruten ships and from Leknes Airport exist daily scheduled flights to Bodø and Trondheim. Since 2007 is a ferry -free connection to the European Route 6 and thus to the Norwegian mainland.
