Vigasio

Vigasio is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 9661 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Province of Verona in the Veneto region. The community is located about 14 kilometers south of Verona.

History

The place name probably derives from the Latin vicus attii and thus marked a settlement site of Attier that were probably attributable to the Veneti. Is mentioned for the first time the village 1014. When changing station between Mantua and Verona, the place had early acquired a certain importance.

At Vigasio the Autostrada A22 Modena leads coming towards Brenner. The nearest port is in Nogarole Rocca or Verona. With the relocation of the rail line Verona - Rovigo railway station in Vigasio 1986 was closed.
