Villa Massimo

The German Academy Rome Villa Massimo, shortly Villa Massimo (Italian Accademia Tedesca Roma Villa Massimo ) is a cultural institution of the Federal Republic of Germany with headquarters in Rome.

History

The Villa Massimo was built in 1910-1914 by the Berlin industrialist and patron Eduard Arnhold ( 1849-1925 ), which they gave together with the endowment of 680,000 marks in 1913 the Prussian state.

Academy

The scholarship is one of the most important awards in Germany for outstanding artists in the fields of visual arts, literature, music (composition) and architecture. You're invited to one-year study in the Villa Massimo, or to three -month stays in the southeast of Rome Located in Olevano Romano Casa Baldi. There they can in ten studios ( Casa Baldi: two) as fellows live free and work. Also, 2,500 Euro per month is paid to the artist for the time. An important idea is the mutual excitation. The Academy is every year from numerous concerts, lectures and symposia, and presents the works in exhibitions. The Fellows of the Academy of Arts in Berlin, which are in the villa Serpentara ( in Olevano not far from the Casa Baldi located ) housed are also supervised by the Villa Massimo and are involved in all activities of the German Academy Rome. The Director of the Academy is Joachim flowering.
