Villeneuve-d'Ascq
Villeneuve d'Ascq (also Villeneuve d'Ascq written ) is a town with 62 681 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the north of France. It lies immediately east of Lille in Nord, in the Nord -Pas -de- Calais and is one of the more important cities in the metropolitan region of Lille ( Communauté Urbaine ).
Villeneuve d'Ascq is called Technopole Verte ("green technology city " ), which is symbolized by the city logo: a blue ball (technology ) next to a green leaf ( respect for the environment ).

Geography
Location
The city is immediately adjacent to the south east of the city of Lille. The border with Belgium is located east about 20 km away. About 10 square kilometers of the city area is green space, forest, water bodies or agricultural land.

History
The village was first mentioned as Ascq Asnapio the time of Charlemagne. It belonged for centuries to the County of Flanders and the Duchy of Burgundy, since the Treaty of Aachen from 1668, it is part of France.
