The Anterior Rhine, in the native Sursilvan clean Anteriur? / I, one of the two source rivers of the Rhine. Its catchment area of 1512 km ², is located predominantly in the canton of Graubünden ( Switzerland ). The Front Rhine is about 76 kilometers over 5% longer than the rear Rhine (both measured over the longest Quellast ). However, the anterior Rhine with an average water flow of 53.8 m³ / s is somewhat smaller. The source of the Anterior Rhine - and the Rhine - is as indicated on the Atlas of Switzerland by the Federal Office of Topography, north of the clean Tuma and Toma.

Anterior Rhine was also the name of a district, which was created in 1851 with the reorganization of the Grisons judiciary. Its territory is since 2001 part of the district Surselva.

Course

The Rhine flows through front, predominantly oriented east-northeast after, a large Alpenlängstal that Surselva. Its north side is steep with short valleys, the southern side through some long valleys broken ( similar to the situation in the west adjoining Wallis ). Therefore, the main tributaries of pure lead because Sumvitg, Glogn / Glenner and Rabiusa all from the south. In its lower reaches of the Rhine flows through the front originating from the Flims landslide ravine landscape of Ruinaulta. At Reichenau, he joins the Rhine to the rear (Alpine ) Rhine.

Source arms

Of the tributaries of the Anterior Rhine some as an equal source arms may apply. Downstream, these are (with flow path from the sources to the confluence of the anterior and posterior Rhine ):

• Two coming down from the fields Puožas and Milez near the Oberalp Pass streams ( both approximately 70 km)
• Quellast Aua da Val from Val Val ( approximately 70 km)
• Rein da Maighels (about 75 km) ( tributary of the Rein da Curnera )
• Rein da Curnera ( approximately 74 km)
• Rein da Nalps ( approximately 71 km)
• Rein da Medel, in the Ticino headwaters Reno di Medel, then known as Froda ( approximately 76 km)

The longer arms are swelling so it is not at the Oberalp Pass, but the southeast. The longest Quellast of the Anterior Rhine ( and the Rhine as a whole, see also source of the Rhine ) is the springing on denunciation of the Ticino community Quinto Reno di Medel, which runs in its uppermost part of the valley, the Val Cadlimo, south of the geomorphologic Alpine main ridge ( west of the Lukmanier pass ).

Others

The largest municipalities along the Vorderrheins are Disentis / Muster and Ilanz / Glion.

Thanks to the attractive scenery and some interesting passages of the Anterior Rhine especially between Ilanz and Versam is a destination for paddle sports and river rafting.

The Front Rhine is accompanied along its entire length of the narrow-gauge railway line Chur-Disentis/Mustér the Rhaetian Railway. From Disentis, the route of the Furka - Oberalp Bahn, now Matterhorn -Gotthard -Bahn to the Oberalp Pass and on to Andermatt. The main road gives way in the field of Ruinaulta northward and runs at the highest point in Flims around 480 meters above the Rhine.

The Senda Sursilvana, a long distance footpath along the young Rhine leads from the Oberalp Pass forth along the Anterior Rhine towards Chur.
