Weißer Turm (Nuremberg U-Bahn)

Metro Station White Tower (abbreviation: WT) is the 14th Metro Station Nuremberg subway and opened on 28 January 1978. The station is served by lines U1 and U11 and was, until September 20, 1980 whose endpoint. It is 445 meters from Plaerrer Metro Station and 635 meters from the Lorenz Church Metro Station. At the train station to Fuerth direction followed by a X-shaped double track change. The metro station is named after the gate tower of the Nuremberg penultimate city fortifications, under which it lies.

Location

The station is located in the district of Nuremberg St. Lawrence and extends below the ground in east-west direction from the White Tower at the Jacob yard to the Ludwig street. Of the two heads lead platform outputs in a distribution of levels and from there to Jacob's place or to the pedestrian lane width and Karolinenstraße. An elevator runs from the eastern platform head to the surface. In the eastern distributor basement there is access to a department store C & A and Wöhrl as well as a kiosk and a public toilet.

In the vicinity of the station are the Elizabeth and James' Church, Police Headquarters Central Franconia and in front of the White Tower, the marriage carousel, which conceals a ventilation shaft of the subway.

Building and Architecture

The station building is 150 m long, 16-22 m wide and 16 m deep ( one and a half times the down position). Construction of the station began on 26 May 1975. The eastern part of the train station under the White Tower was created in an open design, the 4500 -ton tower was then placed during construction on a concrete table with 30 poles and on the station tunnel. The western part was created in an open design with Berlin wall and diaphragm walls to protect the zoom reaching to the station churches of St. Elizabeth and St. Jakob from damage. In surface restoration was the the tower upstream Barbican, which was damaged in World War II and 1953, canceled in the wake of the tram track relocations partly rebuilt.

The characteristic color of the station is green. The platform walls are covered with sand and stones to make on the penultimate city fortifications, which included the White Tower, attentive. The columns represent with their green tiling the modernism of the 1970s.
