Wengi

Wengi is a municipality in the administrative district in the canton of Bern Seeland in Switzerland. Under the name Wengi exists alongside the community of a reformed parish.

Geography

The municipality Wengi consists of the three villages Scheunenberg, Waltwil and Wengi. The neighboring municipalities are Rapperswil, Grossaffoltern, this bei Buren in the canton of Bern and Schnottwil and Balm bei Messen in the canton of Solothurn (clockwise). Wengi is in the upper Limpachtal centrally between the four cities of Bern, Biel, Solothurn and Burgdorf, which are by car to reach all within about 20 minutes. In Wengi intersect the two roads go Seedorf - Koppigen and Buren - Zollikofen. The nearest motorway junction is the exit ( 8) Münchenbuchsee on the A6 motorway ( Biel - Thun). By Postbus courses, which operate on routes of Zollikofen via Bueren an der Aare to Solothurn and of Lyss to measuring SO, Wengi is connected to the network of public transport.

Economy

Wengi was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by agriculture village. With the amelioration of Limpachebene and the correction of the stream in the years 1939-1951 valuable cultural land has been won. Even today, farming, dairy farming and livestock an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the surrounding urban areas.

History

In 1262, Wengen was first mentioned when it was sold to the Abbey Frienisberg, however, belonged in 1406 to the country counties acquired by the State of Bern. Bern allotted 1501 Wänge the bailiwick Buren.

From 1846 to 1848 the road from Bern to Buren and 1864 the road from Suberg by Bätterkinden was expanded. During the Second World War large quantities of peat were cut in Wengimoos; from 1941 to 1943, built the Limpachkanal and 1951 melioration of Limpachtals was completed. 1961 Wengimoos was put under protection.

1963, the district municipalities Scheunenberg, Waltwil and Wengi joined together to residents of Wengi.

The Municipal Assembly; election and voting rights, any person who has lived for at least three months in the community and in cantonal affairs is entitled to vote.

The municipal council; consisting of seven members who are elected by majority system. Community president is Christine Roder ( since 2009).

The voter shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 43.0 %, BDP 18.0 %, SP 10.0 %, GPS 8.1 %, FDP 5.9 %, glp 5.5 %, CVP 2.1 %, EPP 1.4 %, EDU 1.4 %, SD 1.3 %, Alps Parliament 1.1 %, 1.1 % PNOS.
