Background

Wind & Wuthering is the first Genesis album, which was not included in her native England. The Hilvaria ( Relight ) studios were instead booked for three weeks in Holland, where the follow-up album has been created. With the emergence of the songs, there were more and more inconsistencies, primarily between Tony Banks and Steve Hackett, which is why the latter eventually left the band in 1977.

The cover of the album shows a space surrounded by fog autumnal tree. The album's title is a reference to the novel Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. Unquiet slumbers for the sleepers in quiet earth did the last sentence of the novel and is the title of two instrumental songs on this album. The Ballad Afterglow became a live classic of the band.
