Location and economic

Hilvarenbeek is located south-southeast of the neighboring city of Tilburg, the distance between the two town centers is about 9 km. In Tilburg is also the nearest railway station and the nearest motorway ( A58 Breda - Tilburg - 's- Hertogenbosch, exit 10 ). Diessen is just east of Hilvarenbeek.

The main sources of income of the community are tourism and agriculture. Hilvarenbeek where many people live who have their work in Tilburg, now has more the character of a suburb of Tilburg as the former farming village.

History

In the 12th century, the name Beek occurred for the first time. In the 14th century, the name of the holy Hildevardi has been added. In the 15th century the village grew, as it lay on an important trade route. But the village was a result of the Eighty Years' War in the 20th century, mainly to a farming village.

On 1 January 1997 the municipality Diessen was incorporated into the municipality Hilvarenbeek. To manage the generic unity of these two places was restored after 350 years. Dießen Christians had been forced about 1648 to 1800, instead of going to the Reformed Church in the Roman Catholic: the village church was only accessible to the Protestants.

Hilvarenbeek was the first municipality in the Netherlands, in the oak processionary moth was found.

In the forests south of Hilvarenbeek 1964 Hilvaria studios were built. First, they served for filming, even for commercials and short films made for television. Between 1974 and 1981, the building is in use as a recording studio for pop music were. The equipment was so modern ( the Eindhoven Philips factories, which produced also records were not far away! ) That not only top Dutch artists such as Golden Earring and Herman Brood there took up several titles, but also foreign like Black Sabbath, Cat Stevens and Genesis. The two Genesis albums Wind & Wuthering (1976) and And Then There Were Three (1978 ) were recorded in the studios Hilvarenbeeker Relight. The complex now houses a conference center.

Attractions

  • Between Tilburg and Hilvarenbeek is the well known also outside the Netherlands Beekse Bergen Safari Park. There is also a holiday park with a swimming pool, cottages and more. The Safari Park is participating in the breeding program for the conservation of the Siberian tiger.
  • The center of Hilvarenbeek around the village square Vrijthof is quite worth seeing. It says, among other things, built around 1300, St. Peter's Church. In this church there is a pulpit from 1628, an organ that is often used in the summer organ concerts, and other Baroque-style furniture. The tower of this church, dating from 1450, has a chime and can in the summer from time to time be ascended.
  • In Hilvarenbeek there are some small, limited open museums that give an insight into the village life of past centuries: a small beer brewery, a country doctor's office and a small soda and liqueur factory.
  • The south-western half of the municipality of Tilburg to the Belgian border consists mostly of forests, where we have marked the local VVV (tourist office ) walks.
  • The famous Abbey of Postel, just over the Belgian border, is a popular destination such hiking and cycling.
  • Every Sunday is the building of Hilvaria studios to the public. It will present paintings and other works by local artists, and there can be, for example, drinking coffee.
  • As everywhere in this area, the Carnival is the biggest event of the year.
  • Also Diessen has a medieval church, which is dedicated to St. Willibrord.
  • Once a year in the summer there is the Hardstyle and Hardcore Outdoor Festival " Decibel " instead.
