Žirov

Žirov ( German Shirov ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located eight kilometers northeast of Pelhřimov and belongs to Okres Pelhřimov.

Geography

Žirov located creek on the ridge between the valleys of Kopaninský and Kladinský creek in the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands. North of the village rises the Černý vrch (614 m). In the southeast lie the Horni and Dolni Kladiny two larger Stauweiher of 28 and 32 hectares. Near the village there are numerous wilderness farms.

Neighboring towns are Velky Rybnik and Mladé Bříště in the north, Mysletín in the northeast, and Pazderny Zachotín in the east, in the southeast Částonín, Kocourovy Lhotky in the south, and Rybníček Útěchovičky in the west and Dehtáře and Onšovice in the northwest.

History

The first mention of Žirův dvůr dates from 1379th Velky Rybnik belonged at that time to episcopal rule Řečice. After the division of the gentlemen Leskovský of Leskovec Žirov received. After the death of Krystof Leskovský acquired in 1597 Heřman the Elder Říčanský Říčany its possession. After the Battle of White Mountain, the goods of Jan Říčanský were confiscated and the archbishopric of Prague Žirov brought back.

Until the replacement of patrimonial Žirov remained with the rule Cervena Řečice and in 1850 an independent village. Between 1869 and 1902 Žirov was a part of the community Zachotín and formed then get back to their community. 1974 saw the incorporation to Strměchy and with this community together on 1 January 1980 in the city Pelhřimov. Since 1990 Žirov is self again.
