Khlong Toei District

Khlong Toei ( Thai: คลองเตย, " Pandanus channel") is one of the 50 districts ( Khet ) of Bangkok, capital of Thailand.

Khlong Toei is located in the southern area and includes, but is part of the Sukhumvit Road. In Khlong Toei is the port of Bangkok. The district is also known for the largest slum area of Bangkok. The north- west of the district, however, fulfilled the functions of a central business district of Bangkok. Here sit the Thai stock market, the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, banks, hotels and shopping centers.

Geography

Khlong Toei is bounded to the north of Sukhumvit Road, the east by a straight extension of the Sukhumvit Soi 52 down to the Chao Phraya River, in the south of the Chao Phraya itself and to the west by the " Tang Duang Ta Ruea - Din Daeng " ( highway from port according to Din Daeng ).

The neighboring districts are clockwise from the north: Watthana, Phra Khanong, on the other bank of the Chao Phraya River Amphoe Phra Pradaeng, which belongs to the province of Samut Prakan, Yan Nawa, Sathon, and Pathum Wan.

History

The district was formerly part of Phra Khanong and was built on 9 November 1989 as a new district. Originally Khlong Toei six sub- districts, however, three of which are received on 8 March 1998 in the new district Watthana.

The area of Khlong Toei has a long history, which already dates back to the 9th century, when they built a first port here. The village was associated Mueang Pak Nam Phra Pradaeng ( เมือง ปากน้ำ พระประแดง ), opposite to the Amphoe Phra Pradaeng. Khlong Thanon Trong ( คลอง ถนน ตรง ) was both a channel, on the other hand a parallel-guided road under King Mongkut (Rama IV ) was built about 1857. Later, the canal Khlong Toei and Khlong Hua Lamphong at the underflow was called.

The road was built in 1919 by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI. ) In Thanon Phra Ram 4 ( " Rama IV Road " ) renamed. 1947, a large portion of the canal was filled in to make room for the road extension of Rama IV Road.

Port

The Port of Khlong Toei ( Khlong Toei port), also Port of Bangkok (Bangkok port) called (Position: 13 ° 42 ' 25 "N, 100 ° 34 ' 0" O13.706944444444100.56666666667 ), has long been the only cargo seaport Thailand. Its construction started in 1938 and lasted until the end of World War II.

The port is located on the Chao Phraya River not far from the Gulf of Thailand. Informal settlements

Near the harbor, south of Rama IV Road and on the grounds of the Port Authority of Thailand is the largest marginal settlement area ( " slum " ) of Bangkok and one of the largest in Asia. Since the 1950s, illegal precarious dwellings are here, due to the large demand of the port for cheap labor, emerged. Traffic

The Bangkok Skytrain (BTS ) has numerous stations along Sukhumvit Road, Khlong Toei among them: Nana, Asok ( with connections to the subway ), Phrom Phong, Thong Lo, Ekkamai, Phra Khanong and On Nut, the terminus

The Bangkok Metro ( Bangkok Metro) has the following stations: Khlong Toei, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center and Sukhumvit ( the transit traffic in the skytrain ).

The bus station for all to the east ( Trat, Rayong, Chonburi ) outgoing buses is located opposite the confluence of the Ekkamai Road ( Sukhumvit Soi 63) and near the Ekkamai BTS station.

Education

In Khlong Toei is the private University of Bangkok.
