2008 Tour de France, Stage 1 to Stage 11#Stage 11

The 11th stage of the 2008 Tour de France on July 16 was 167.5 km long and ran from Lannemezan to Foix. There were two sprints and two climbs of the third category and a mountain stage of the first category on the program.

The stage began with high speed, which breakaways foiled first. On the way to the first intermediate sprint succeeded short of a 13 - man breakaway group to get away, but is caught up before the sprint. Leonardo Duque won this sprint. The now 13-strong breakaway group was able to extend the lead to over 16 minutes. Moinard attacked on the way to the Col de Portel and drove the first of these mountains classification and also on the third and final climb of the day. García Acosta fell meanwhile back also. Óscar Pereiro attacked, meanwhile from the field, but was asked already back on the descent of the mountain. The goal in Foix was achieved on a 290 meter long and 6.5 meter wide stretch. On the way grip from the first chase group Fofonow, later Elmiger and Arvesen, which overtook the still leading Moinard. Ballan now attacked and the first to reach the finish line. There was a photo finish between Arvesen, Ballan and Elmiger, the former could just decide for themselves. The sprint of the field, which later reached the goal on 14 minutes, Thor Hushovd won in front of Erik Zabel and Leonardo Duque.
