2008 Tour de France, Stage 12 to Stage 21#Stage 19
The 19th stage of the 2008 Tour de France on July 25 was 165.5 km long and ran from Roanne to Montlucon. There were two sprints and one mountain stage of the 3rd and 4th category on the program.
Directly after the start there was again some attacks, but all were not successful. At kilometer 10, a group led by Fabian Wegmann, Romain Feillu and Juan Antonio Flecha lost the connection, and later another larger group. Meanwhile, Stefan Schumacher, Egoi Martínez, Alessandro Ballan and Pierrick Fedrigo could settle. In the field Gert Steegmans tried a short breakaway. Schumacher drove the first on both climbs. The field was again mostly out of Liquigas, who captured the runaway 96 km before the finish again. Then again attacked several drivers. Sylvain Chavanel finally managed to get away with Jérémy Roy something their lead grew to about five minutes. Chavanel finally won the first intermediate sprint of the day. Now the team Barloworld set about the chase. The second sprint won Roy. The two were able to save a little more than a minute ahead of the 1000 meters long and 6 meters wide stretch in Montlucon, where Chavanel won the sprint against Roy. Gerald Ciolek decided the sprint of the peloton before Erik Zabel and Heinrich Haussler for themselves. In the overall standings this resulted again no change. The group led by Fabian Wegmann, Romain Feillu and Juan Antonio Fletcha lost on the peloton more and more time and could not be reached within the waiting time target.
