2009 WTA Tour Championships
The WTA Championships 2009 (also known as Sony Ericsson Championships - Doha 2009 known ) found from 27 October to 1 November 2009 in Doha instead. It was the 38th edition of the Damentennnis competition. The eight best singles players and top four doubles pairings of the season had qualified for the tournament.
Defending champion Venus Williams was in the single and doubles pairing consisting of Cara Black and Liezel Huber.
In single Serena Williams defeated Venus Williams 6:2, 7:64 and Nuria Llagostera Vives in double / María José Martínez Sánchez against Cara Black / Liezel Huber with 7:60, 5:7, [ 10:7 ].

Qualification
The top eight ladies of the WTA Tour qualified for this competition. In addition there were two reservists.
Competition mode
First was performed in two groups of four in a round -robin. There was the Maroon and White groups, inspired by the national colors of the host country Qatar. The two best group qualified for the semi-finals and played from there to a knockout system.
