2012 Gran Piemonte

The 98th Tour of Piedmont ( officially: Gran Piemonte) was held in Italy on September 27, 2012. The one-day race was part of the UCI Europe Tour 2012 and classified in the category 1.HC within them. The distance of the Radklassikers was 188 kilometers. As every year the race was held two days before the Tour of Lombardy and slid along with this in 2012 from the original date in mid- October in September back.

Participant

At the starting eleven were ProTeam and Professional Continental teams seven. Known participating drivers were among other titleholder Daniel Moreno and Luca Paolini from the Katusha team, Franco Pellizotti ( Androni Giocattoli - Venezuela), Fredrik Kessiakoff, Paolo Tiralongo ( Astana Pro Team ), Alessandro Ballan and Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing Team), Domenico Pozzovivo ( Colnago -CSF Inox ), Samuel Sanchez, Igor Anton ( Euskaltel -Euskadi ), Filippo Pozzato ( Farnese Vini- Selle Italia ), Ryder Hesjedal, Andrew Talansky (Garmin- Sharp), Elia Viviani (Liquigas -Cannondale ), Giovanni Visconti ( Movistar Team ), Daniele Bennati, Chris Horner and Haimar Zubeldia ( RadioShack -Nissan ) and Sergio Henao, Richie Porte, Rigoberto uranium (Sky Procycling ). John and Simon Geschke Fröhlinger (both Argos - Shimano ) took the color of Germany at the start. From Switzerland started Steve Morabito, Mathias Frank (both BMC Racing Team ) and Oliver Zaugg ( RadioShack - Nissan), from Austria Thomas Rohregger ( also Radio Shack ). Many of the 144 participants used the race as preparation for the two days later held Tour of Lombardy.

Track and race course

The start of Piedmont Tour 2012 took place in Fossano. After the drivers had completed the first flat 86 km to the north, they reached in Albugnano the first pitch ( 5.6 km ). 33.8 kilometers from the finish of the destination Biella was passed for the first time, followed by there are two final rounds with the hill of Favaro (6.2 km, up to eleven percent slope) and a technical descent back into town.

Carlos Quintero ( Colombia - Coldeportes ), Matthew Lloyd ( Lampre- ISD ) and Oleg Berdos ( utensil North Named ) were able to work out as an outlier of the day, although up to seven minutes ahead, but were overtaken before the first target passage. At the first driveway after Favaro be translated Paolo Tiralongo ( Astana Pro Team ) and Amets Txurruka ( Euskaltel -Euskadi ) on the field, both were asked but again in the following departure. In surfaces, a new top group with Gianluca Brambilla ( Colnago -CSF Inox ), Mattia Cattaneo ( Lampre- ISD), Miguel Angel Rubiano ( Androni Giocattoli ) and Vladimir Miholjevic ( Acqua e Sapone ), which, however, just as little is known about the re- formed could save rise as the soloist Alessandro Proni ( Farnese Vini- Selle Italia ). The decisive attack finally put the two Colombian Sergio Henao Sky and Rigoberto uranium, which in the end could only follow Gorka Verdugo of Euskaltel.
