The Hungarian Grand Prix 2012 took place on 29 July at the Hungaroring in Mogyoród and was the eleventh round of the Formula 1 season in 2012.

Background
After the Grand Prix of Germany Fernando Alonso led the drivers' championship with 34 points ahead of Mark Webber and 44 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel. In the Constructors' Championship, Red Bull -Renault led with 53 points ahead of Ferrari and 70 points ahead of McLaren - Mercedes.
At the Hungarian Grand Prix put Pirelli riders the tire compounds P Zero medium ( white) and P Zero soft (yellow), as well as for wet conditions Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full Wets (blue ) are available.
With Michael Schumacher ( four times ), Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton (twice), Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Heikki Kovalainen and Webber ( once each ) were seven former winners of this Grand Prix.
As race stewards acted Gerd Ennser (GER ), Lajos Herczeg (HUN ), Radovan Novak (CZE ) and Danny Sullivan (USA).
Training
In the first free practice Hamilton set the fastest time ahead of his teammate Button and Alonso. In this training Jules Bianchi to Force India of Nico Hulkenberg, Valtteri Bottas Williams by Bruno Senna and Dani Clos took the HRT of Narain Karthikeyan. In the second free practice session it started to rain during training. This Schumacher lost control over the vehicle and demolished the front end of his car in an accident. Hamilton was again the fastest rider. Raikkonen was second, Senna third parties. In the third free practice session Webber went on a dry track the fastest time ahead of Hamilton and Vettel.
Qualifying
In the first phase of qualifying Hamilton set the fastest time. The HRT, Marussia and Caterham pilots and Daniel Ricciardo retired from. In the second section Hamilton remained at the top. The pilots on positions two to ten were within about three tenths of a second. The Mercedes and Sauber drivers and Jean- Éric Vergne, Paul di Resta and Webber dropped out. In the final section of Hamilton once again achieved the fastest lap and thus got the pole position ahead of Romain Grosjean and Vettel.
Race
The start of the Hungarian Grand Prix had to first be canceled and another lap to be performed. The reason for the take-off was that Schumacher had taken the wrong starting position. Instead of driving to the 17th position, Schumacher drove to the 19th position. He set out from his engine, as he thought that for this case a five-minute break was provided. However, this scheme only applied to 2006. Schumacher was pushed into the pit lane and took up the race from there.
At the start Hamilton got away well and kept the lead safely. Grosjean was attacked by Vettel and maintained his position. Vettel lost it momentum. This enabled button outside to ride in the second curve to pass Vettel on the third position. Also behind, there were shifts. Alonso went on past Raikkonen on the fifth place. In the initial phase Schumacher went for a tire change to the box. However, he was driving too fast and immediately got a drive through penalty. In the initial phase, the pilots were trying to conserve their tires.
Hamilton and Grosjean dropped off at the top. Grosjean had a few seconds behind Hamilton. Button came in third place under pressure from Vettel. In lap 15 Button was the first driver out of the top group that went to the box. He moved from the softer to the harder tire compound. Three laps later, Vettel and Alonso follow. While Alonso also switched to the harder tires, Vettel stayed on the softer compound. Button remained ahead of Vettel, Alonso fell behind Sergio Pérez, who had not yet stopped, back and therefore was not able to take advantage of fresh tires. Hamilton went on Grosjean to the box and went after the meantime Leading Raikkonen had stopped again in the lead. Hamilton moved to the harder compound, the Lotus pilots remained on the softer tire compound. Raikkonen passed through the stop at Alonso.
Grosjean, who had lost by a non-optimal pit stop for a few seconds on Hamilton, the residue is finally gone and made its distance to Hamilton swayed by one second. In the 34th round button again went to the box. He switched on the softer tire compound. Five laps later, Vettel went to Button, who had fallen behind Senna, over. Shortly thereafter completed also Grosjean Hamilton and their second stop. Vettel, Button and Grosjean drove now on the harder tire compound. Grosjean initially fell back behind Alonso. Alonso and Räikkönen stayed out of the top group for more on the track and took the harder tire compound with. While Alonso gutmachte no seats, took over Raikkonen, who had driven a good second stint, after a tight duel with Grosjean second behind Hamilton. Although Raikkonen under braking, but as he was on the inside lane and Grosjean, the run-off area used for Dodge, he stopped in front Grosjean.
In midfield, there was a duel between Pastor Maldonado and di Resta. Maldonado drove enter in to a right turn and urged di Resta with a contact in the outlet zone. The stewards took Maldonado then a drive-through penalty for causing a collision.
Raikkonen taking the residue on Hamilton and finally lay to the end of the race in about one second behind Hamilton. However, an overtaking maneuver he did not do, because he came for never close enough to his opponent zoom. Vettel and Button went again to the box. Button moved to the harder, Vettel on the softer tire compound. Button fell behind Alonso; Vettel came right in front of Alonso back on track and retained his position, but was on fresher tires. He made up to the end of the race the gap to Grosjean again completely off to one overtaking but did not get it.
Before the end of the race fell from Schumacher and Karthikeyan. Schumacher was on a technical defect in the pits, Karthikeyan put his car with a broken steering from. This defect announced itself on several laps by the car easily moved to the right.
Hamilton eventually won the race ahead of the Lotus drivers Raikkonen and Grosjean. Vettel was fourth ahead of Alonso and Button. The other points went to Senna, Webber, Felipe Massa and Nico Rosberg.
In the World Cup Alonso enlarged the gap on second-placed Webber. Vettel, Hamilton and Raikkonen in the squares behind caught up. In the constructors Red Bull remained in the lead. Ferrari fell back from second to fourth place. McLaren was new before Lotus on the second place.
Until the next race, the Belgian Grand Prix, there was a five-week summer break.
