Background
The Grand Prix of the United States came in 2012 in the Formula 1 calendar back. Directed by Hermann Tilke, the Circuit of The Americas originated. The final Grand Prix of the United States in 2007 had taken place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway ..
After the Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi Sebastian Vettel led the drivers' championship with 10 points ahead of Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen 57 points. In the Constructors' Championship, Red Bull -Renault led with 82 points ahead of Ferrari and 104 points to McLaren - Mercedes. Vettel and Red Bull -Renault have the chance to win the world title in their category at the Grand Prix.
When the U.S. Grand Prix presented Pirelli riders the tire compounds P Zero Hard ( silver) and P Zero medium ( white ) and for wet Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full Wets (blue ) are available.
With Michael Schumacher ( five times ) and Lewis Hamilton ( once) were two former winners of this Grand Prix.
As race officials acted José Abed ( MEX), Garry Connelly (AUS), Emerson Fittipaldi (BRA ) and Tim Mayer (USA).
Training
In the first session the track was slippery at first and had little grip. Vettel was the fastest driver from Hamilton and Alonso. In this training, Qing Hua Ma took over the HRT of Narain Karthikeyan. In the second free practice Vettel claimed the lead from his team-mate Mark Webber and Alonso. In the third free practice Vettel stayed ahead. Hamilton was second ahead of Pastor Maldonado.
Qualifying
In the first phase of qualifying Vettel was the fastest pilot. The HRT, Caterham and Marussia pilots and Daniel Ricciardo retired from. In the second segment Vettel stayed ahead. The Sauber drivers and Nico Rosberg, Jean- Éric Vergne, Paul di Resta, Jenson Button and Bruno Senna dropped out. In the third segment Vettel held the lead and secured the pole position ahead of Hamilton and Webber.
In the grid, Romain Grosjean and Felipe Massa were treated because of a gear change by five positions to the rear. It is not the transmission was on cars of Massa changed, but only the FIA seals are damaged. Ferrari decided on this action to Alonso a position forward to the "clean" to enable Home.
Race
Hamilton won the race ahead of Vettel and Alonso.
Vettel held the lead at the start and initially leading the race. Through an overtaking maneuver in the second half of the race Hamilton was able to drive past Vettel. He kept the lead until the finish.
During the World Cup, the driver remained open, Red Bull -Renault secured the Constructors' World Championship title.
