Agüero, Huesca

Located in a tributary of the Gallego Aguero is a Spanish municipality in the province of Huesca in the Autonomous Region of Aragón ( comarca of Hoya de Huesca). It is located west of the Rio Gallego below the Mallos de Aguero, towering conglomerate mountains that lie on the southern edge of the Pyrenees on the border landscape Somontano. To Agüero also includes the village of San Felices.

History

Aguero is first mentioned in 938. Since 1024 Agüero was as a fortified frontier town to the Arab dominions of Huesca and Barbastro an outpost of the Reconquista.

  • Church of Santiago, a Romanesque torso with staggered columns portal in the south and rich sculptural decoration, east of the village, classified as a historic monument since 1920 ( Bien de Interès Cultural )
