Aïssey

Aïssey is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Aïssey is located on 427 m, 10 km south of Baume- les -Dames and about 24 km east of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the so-called first plateau, a broad basin between the Jura - edge chain ( French ) in the north and the plateau in the south- east of the Talniederung Audeux.

The area of ​​10.67 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the wide first Jura plateau, which is on average 420 meters. It forms a wide, partially karstified basin. From south to north the plateau is crossed by the valley of the Audeux, with the creek gradually eintieft in a tortuous little valleys in the plateau. In the area of Aïssey the plateau is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. To the north of the municipality floor extends into the forest areas of the Grand Bois and the Bois de la Faye. To the southeast, the municipality's area extends over a 150 m high ground level on the adjacent plateau of Mont, on the 599 meters, the highest elevation of Aïssey is achieved. In the far south, the area extends into the valley of the upper Audeux in which the monastery Grâce -Dieu is located.

Neighboring communities of Aïssey are Dammartin -les- Templars and Saint Juan in the north, Orsans in the east, Chaux -lès- Passavant, Magny- Châtelard and Côte Brune in the south and Glamondans in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Aïssey belonged to the rule Passavant, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. On June 18, 1940 Aïssey was almost completely destroyed by German troops.

Attractions

The Church of Aïssey showing the modern architecture of the 20th century. From the 16th century the chapel of Saint -Nicolas comes to the forest above the village. In the village are farmhouses are preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 18th to 19th centuries.

Population

With 162 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Aïssey one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 271 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid- 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure
