Albert Joseph Wallace

Albert Joseph Wallace ( born February 11, 1853 in Ontario, Canada province, † February 23, 1939 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American politician. Between 1911 and 1915 he was Deputy Governor State of California.

Career

In 1886, Albert Wallace came with his brother to Pasadena in California, where in the real estate business worked. Twelve years later he moved to Los Angeles, where he founded several oil companies. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. Between 1908 and 1910 he sat in the local city council, where he headed the Finance Committee. Wallace was also a member of the temperance movement. Since 1895 he was curator of the University of Southern California. From 1924 to 1927 he was the Chairman of the Board.

1910 Wallace was elected to the side of Hiram Johnson as Lieutenant Governor of California. This post he held 1911-1915. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1920 he joined unsuccessfully in the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate. In 1924 he was an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention, was nominated to the President Calvin Coolidge for re-election. He died on February 23, 1939 in Los Angeles, where he was also buried.
