Ambedkar Nagar district

The district Ambedkar Nagar (Hindi: अंबेडकर नगर, Urdu: امبیڈکر نگر ) is a district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Administrative center is the city of Akbarpur, Tanda is the largest city. Bears his name the district after the social reformer and politician BR Ambedkar.

Geography

The district Ambedkar is om the east of the Awadh region ( Oudh ) in Central Uttar Pradesh and belongs to Faizabad Division. Neighboring districts are Basti and Sant Kabir Nagar in the north, Gorakhpur in the north- east, in the southeast Azamgarh, Sultanpur and Faizabad in the southwest to the west.

The district covers an area of 2,350 square kilometers and is wholly owned flat Gangetic plain. In the north the Ghaghara, a large tributary of the Ganges River, the border between Ambedkar Nagar forms. In addition, the flow Tamsa ( sound ) flows through the district area.

The district Ambedkar Nagar is divided into five Tehsils Tanda Allapur, Jalapur, Akbarpur and Bhiti.

History

Ambedkar Nagar was established in 1995 as an independent district. Previously, the area had belonged to the district Faizabad. Like many other districts that were formed during the reign of the BSP politician Mayawati, the district Ambedkar Nagar was after an icon of Dalit movement, the social reformer and politician BR Ambedkar, named.

Population

According to the Indian census of 2011, the district Ambedkar Nagar has 2,397,888 inhabitants. Between 2001 and 2011 the population grew by 18 percent, slightly slower than in Uttar Pradesh funds ( 20 percent). The population density is 1,020 inhabitants per square kilometer above the already high average of the state of 829 inhabitants per square kilometer. The district is very rural: only 12 percent of the population live in cities. The literacy rate is 72 percent higher than the average of Uttar Pradesh (68 percent) and almost exactly equal to the all-India average ( 73 percent).

The population of the district according to the 2001 census, Hindus represent 83 per cent majority. There is also a Muslim minority of 16 percent. Most Muslims live here in cities: Under the urban population they represent the majority.
