Deoria district

The district Deoria (Hindi: देवरिया जिला ) is a district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Administrative center is the eponymous town of Deoria.

Geography

The district Deoria is located in northeastern Uttar Pradesh on the border with the state of Bihar. Neighboring districts are Ballia and Mau in the south, in the west of Gorakhpur, Kushinagar in the north ( all Uttar Pradesh ) and Bihar Gopalganj and Siwan in the east.

The district covers an area of 2,540 square kilometers and is wholly owned flat Gangetic plain. In the south of the district Deoria is limited by the Ghaghara, a large tributary of the Ganges.

The district is part of the Deoria Gorakhpur Division. It is divided into five Tehsils Deoria, Salempur, Rudrapur, Berhaj and Bhatpar Rani.

History

The district Deoria exists as a separate district since 1946. Previously, the area to the district Gorakhpur had heard. 1994 was formed from the northern part of the district of Deoria district Kushinagar.

Population

According to the Indian census of 2011, the district Deoria has 3,100,946 inhabitants. Between 2001 and 2011 the population grew by 15 percent, slower than the average Uttar Pradesh ( 20 percent). The population density is 1,221 inhabitants per square kilometer with well above the already high average of the state ( 829 inhabitants per square kilometer). (22 Uttar Pradesh is the average percent) Only ten percent of the population live in cities: Here, the district is very rural. The literacy rate is 71 percent above the average of Uttar Pradesh (68 percent), but slightly below the all-India average ( 73 percent).

The population of the district according to the 2001 census Hindus represent 88 percent of the clear majority. There is also a Muslim minority of eleven percent.
