Barbara Vucanovich

Barbara Farrell Vucanovich ( born June 22, 1921 in Camp Dix, New Jersey, † June 10, 2013 ) was an American politician ( Republican). Between 1983 and 1997, she represented the second electoral district of the state of Nevada in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years

Barbara Vucanovich attended the Miss Quinn 's School in Albany, New York. Then she graduated to 1938, Albany Academy for Girls and then until 1939 the Manhattan College of the Sacred Heart. In the 1940s she worked as a businesswoman in various positions in New York State. In 1949 she moved to Reno, Nevada. There she married in 1950 the Attorney Kenneth Dillon, her second husband. From her first husband, James Henry Bugden, whom she had married in 1939, she had been divorced in 1949. After Dillon's death she married in 1965, George Vucanovich.

Political career

In 1974, Barbara Vucanovich member of the staff of U.S. Senator Paul Laxalt of Nevada, a position she held until 1982. In the years 1976 and 1980 she was nominated delegates to the Republican National Conventions, where Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan as a presidential candidate of the party. In 1982 she was elected as the first members of the newly created second electoral district of Nevada in the U.S. House of Representatives. After several re- elections, they could exercise their mandate in Congress between January 1983 and January 3, 1997 3. In the meantime, she was a member of several committees such as the Post Committee, the committee that dealt with the public service, and the Kriegsveteranenauschuss. She was also a member of a subcommittee that dealt with the expenditure on military equipment, as well as from 1987 to 1997 a member of the Presidential Debate Commission. In 1996 Vucanovich opted not to run again.

In 2002 she was a member of a commission that took care of the selection of staff in the White House. Then she retreated into retirement. Her daughter Patricia Dillon Cafferata was Finance Minister of Nevada and District Attorney in three districts. She has also written a biography of her mother.
