Walter S. Baring, Jr.

Walter Stephan Baring, Jr. ( born September 9, 1911 in Goldfield, Nevada; † July 13, 1975 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American politician. Between 1949 and 1953, and from 1957 to 1973, he represented the first electoral district of the state of Nevada in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and political rise

Walter Baring attended to 1929 Reno High School and then studied until 1934 at the University of Nevada in Reno. He was admitted as a university teacher. Baring then embarked on a political career. He became a member of the Democratic Party in 1936 and led their district association in Washoe County. In the years 1936 and 1942, he was elected to the Nevada Assembly. During the Second World War Baring served from September 1942 to May 1945 in the U.S. Navy. After that, he was 1945-1948 in Reno in furniture trading. Between 1947 and 1948 he was a member of the City Council of Reno.

Congressman

1948 Baring was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. There he took over from the January 3, 1949 Charles H. Russell. After a re-election in 1950 he was able to implement his mandate in Congress until January 3, 1953. In the years 1952 and 1954, he ran unsuccessfully in each case to a fate and a return to the House of Representatives. During these years he worked in the insurance industry. In 1956, he managed to return to the Congress. Between January 1957 and January 3, 1973 3 he was able to complete eight other legislative periods as a deputy. Baring was also a delegate to all Democratic National Conventions 1952-1968.

After he had not been nominated by his party in 1972, he retired to Reno to retire back. He is also passed in 1975.
