Delos R. Ashley

Delos Rodeyn Ashley ( born February 19, 1828 in The Post, Arkansas, † July 18, 1873 in San Francisco, California ) was an American politician. Between 1865 and 1869 he represented the state of Nevada in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and political rise

Delos Ashley enjoyed a university education. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1849. In the same year he moved to California where he worked as a lawyer in Monterey. Between 1851 and 1853 he was there also District Attorney. Ashley was a member of the newly formed Republican Party. Between 1854 and 1855 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from California and from 1856 to 1857 he was a member of the State Senate. In the years 1862 and 1863 he served as Minister of Finance of the State of California.

Congressman and other CV

In 1864 Delos Ashley moved to Virginia City in Nevada. There he worked as a lawyer. In the congressional elections of 1864, he was elected as a Republican candidate in the U.S. House of Representatives. There he took over from the March 4, 1865 Henry G. Worthington, who had represented the state since its accession to the United States in October 1864. After a re-election in 1866, Ashley was able to implement his mandate in Congress until March 3, 1869. For the 1868 elections, he did not run. Its seat then went to Thomas Fitch.

After the end of his time in Congress, he moved to Pioche in Lincoln County, Nevada, where he worked as a lawyer again. For health reasons he moved in 1872 to San Francisco, where he died in July 1873.
