Dina Titus

Alice Constandina " Dina " Titus (* May 23, 1950 in Thomasville, Thomas County, Georgia) is an American politician. From January 2009 to January 2011, she represented the third electoral district of the state of Nevada in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and career

Dina Titus studied until 1970 at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg political science. She then studied until 1973 at the University of Georgia in Athens and to 1976 at Florida State University in Tallahassee. After her studies, she taught the subject political science at North Texas State University and later at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.

Political career

Dina Titus was a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1989 and 2008 she served on the Senate of Nevada. Since 1993, she headed the minority faction of the Democrats. In 2006, she ran unsuccessfully for the office of Governor of Nevada, where she was defeated by Republican Jim Gibbons. In 2008 she was elected with 47% against 42% of the vote against the incumbent Jon Porter in the U.S. House of Representatives. There they took from January 3, 2009 to January 3, 2011, the interests of the third electoral district of Nevada. She was a member of the Committees on Education and Labor, Homeland Security, and Transportation and Infrastructure.
