Bauduen

Bauduen ( Bauduen [' bawdyɛ ⁿ ] in the Provençal language ) is a commune with 327 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var and the French region of Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

The village is at 500 meters above sea level on the shores of Lac de Sainte -Croix and at the foot of the mountain Defens ( 723 m). The parish is bounded on the south by the mountain range of Cuguyons and on the east by the Mocrouis. The municipality is part of the Regional Natural Park of Verdon.

History

Near the now dried up Fontaine- l'Evêque, which was one of the richest in the whole of France, there was a Neolithic grave chamber. An old Roman road that ran from Fréjus by Riez, led through the village. The burial site and numerous potsherds discovered by Saint- Barthélémy, and a grave inscription in the lobby of City Hall to confirm the occupation of the area in Roman times. In 1060, the village " Balduina Castri " was first mentioned in a charter of Saint -Victor de Marseille. In 1549 Bauduen was laid in ruins. During the year 1765 counted Bauduen already 807 inhabitants.
