Pourcieux

Pourcieux is a commune with 1163 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur. The municipality is part of the Association of Municipalities Sainte -Baume Mont Aurélien.

Geography

The community is located between Aix -en- Provence and Saint -Maximin- la -Sainte -Baume. Neighboring towns are Pourrières ( seven kilometers ), Ollières ( five kilometers ) and Seillons source d'Argens (ten km). The community is located between the Massif de la Sainte -Baume in the south and the Montagne Sainte- Victoire in the north. The village is situated at the Arc.

History

The earliest traces of human presence are stone tools that were found in the Arc- plane. From the sequence, several settlements have been found in the mountain ranges. Although there are no written documents from this period, parts of the language can still be found in today's place names. During Roman times, the oppida were Romanized in the hills, but especially the level experienced a big change. Agriculture was very strong, even today, remains of twenty farms of that time to find. But there are also get three industrial plants. Through the town 's Roman road led from Frejus to Aix. In addition, paths led into Huveaune valley and the Alps. In the period following the Roman agriculture was continued. A possible conquest by the Franks is controversial. 950 was Arlulfe de Marseille master of the place. Around the year 1000 was built on the hill of Sainte -Croix Castrum one. On the old Roman road was also built the parish church of the village. During the Renaissance, the population rebounded in Provence again. Since 1444, the glass production is detectable in Pourcieux. From the chapel, however, nothing remains. In an agreement signed in 1513, the place was no more than " villa", but called Bourg, Pourcieux was thus grown into a small town. Therefore, there was also a post house. The church was under the Abbey of Saint -Victor in Marseille, but a priest of the Archdiocese of Aix -en- Provence was responsible for the church. 1753 Glazier was closed. A wealthy parliamentarians from Aix settled there. His " cottage" was the third castle of Pourcieux. During the Revolution, the complete abolition of the feudal system was announced on 8 September 1790 in the church. The son of former men refused to swear an oath of allegiance to the Constitution, was arrested in Paris on August 11, 1792 and murdered on September 2. On November 29, 1880, the railway line Trets Carnoules was opened, which also led by Pourcieux.
