Nans-les-Pins

Nans -les-Pins is a commune with 4141 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Nans- les- Pins is located in the west of the central Var. The municipality comprises two mountain formations: the Massif de la Sainte -Baume and Mont Aurélien. The place is located in the center of a triangle formed by the most important centers in the region: in Aix- en- Provence is located 45 km north- west, Marseille and Toulon 45 km southwest 65 km from the south-southeast direction.

At the edge of the old town center is a traditional Provencal square where the market is held every Sunday.

History

Dolmens, tumuli and other Neolithic finds prove a permanent settlement of the area from prehistoric times to about 650 BC Not quite seamlessly connect the Iron Age remains of the oppidum of Sainte -Croix on the basis of which is a further two centuries of colonization as of 200 BC, can prove. The original name Nans dates back to this time and goes back to the Celtic word for valley. ( Nans -les-Pins is the community for the first time in 1920 called ).

Tourism

Since 1932 Nans- les- Pins is classified as an official station Touristique. The site offers visitors a well-developed tourist infrastructure with a golf course, horse riding and many hiking trails. At night there is a campsite with cabins, hotels and guest rooms available.

Para- hospitalier

In the 1920s, the pulmonologist Lucien Parrel taught in Nans -les- Pins, in a rehabilitation center for respiratory diseases. Originally the hospital was used for treatment of miners around, suffering from silicosis. Today, it is visited by patients from all over France. The system was complemented by a retirement home and centers for long-term therapy.

Agriculture

The importance of agriculture has declined sharply. Until the beginning of the 20th century, there was a significant rose production. Today, there are essentially only viticulture and some vegetables breeding.

Attractions

  • Built in 1516 oratorio Miette is classified as a monument historique since 1938. It is located on the Chemin des Roys towards the Massif de la Sainte- Baume.
  • The fortified church Chapelle Notre -Dame-de -la- Mercy was built in 1623.
  • The GR- distance footpath 9 of Saint -Amour in the Jura to Saint -Tropez performs Nans -les-Pins.
  • The Ligurian oppidum on the Roche de Sainte- Croix
  • Built in 1913, The wine cooperative Les Vignerons de Nans -les-Pins is another monument historique.
  • Barely visible, but good to hear is the bronze bell of the church of Saint -Sébastien -Saint- Laurent. The community was 1992, they enter as a monument historique.
