Boigu Island (Queensland)

Boigu, English:. Boigu Iceland, is the largest island of the Talbot islands and the fifth largest in the archipelago of the Torres Strait Islands, which are part of the Australian state of Queensland.

Administratively counts Boigu to the Top Western Islands, an island region in the municipality of Torres Shire.

The 90 km ² and flat island located 6 km off the south coast of Papua New Guinea at the mouth of the MAI Koussa. It is considered the northernmost inhabited island of Australia.

In the north of the island is the sole ( the same ) settlement and a version suitable for smaller aircraft take-off and landing strip of about 800 meters in length. The settlement Boigu is the most northerly inhabited place in Australia.

Boigu has a population of 283 (as of 2006 census ), after 270 in 2001.
