Darnley Island (Queensland)

Darnley Iceland, called by the natives Erub, is the most north-easterly of the inhabited Torres Strait Islands. It is located about 200 km northeast of Iceland Thursday, the " main island " in the Torres Strait.

The hilly, flat vegetated island is of volcanic origin, of irregular shape and about 5.5 square kilometers. The highest elevation of 125 meters can be found in the Northwest. Some smaller settlements are also located on the northwest and the southwest coast. According to the census of 2006 320 people lived on the island, slightly more than in 2001 (316).

Administratively Darnley belongs to the Eastern Islands, the easternmost island region in the municipality of Torres Shire of Queensland (Australia). The region also include roughly 45 km southeast situated Murray Iceland and 25 km west location Stephens Iceland.

The owners of Darnley Iceland are the Meuran, one of the eight strains of Murray Iceland. This strain is also in possession of the reefs and sandbars to Bramble Cay in the extreme northeast of the Torres Strait Islands.
