Bregenz District

The district Bregenz in the Vorarlberg region of Austria, which is the administrative district of Bregenz Forest, the Leiblachtal, the small valley, the Hofsteiggemeinden, the Rhine delta and a share of the Bodensee.

Administrative divisions

The district Bregenz include 40 municipalities, including the municipality, and five market towns. The population figures are from December 31, 2013

The most important of the abbreviations used are:

  • D = village
  • ZH = Scattered houses
  • Sdlg = settlement
  • E = bowery (only if they have their own locality code)

Language area

The district is part of the Bregenz down Alemannic -speaking countries with the highest Alemannic sprinklings, bear witness to the medieval Walser migration. The low Alemannic dialects of its inhabitants seem to be partially Swabian, for example due to the Diminutivbildung " le " in words like " Hisle " ( " little house " Swabian " little house ").
