Brères

Brères is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Brères is located at 260 m, south of Quingey, about 24 km southwest of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the western Jura, on the left ( eastern ) bank of the Loue in a basin between the heights of the Bois du Peu in the west and the Bois du Fay in the east.

The area of ​​2.15 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the western French Jura. The area bounded on the west by the Loue. It flows south through here a wide basin, which is surrounded by the outermost ridges of the Jura. From the river, the municipality's area extends eastward, where the terrain rises gently. At the eastern edge municipality is 298 m reaches the highest point of Brères.

Attractions

In Brères lingerie is a manor house, originally dating back to the 15th century, but was later remodeled several times. The stone bridge which leads over the Loue, was built in 1845.

Population

With 41 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Brères is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Throughout the 20th century, the population fluctuated always in the range between 24 and 48 people.

Economy and infrastructure

Brères was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. The water power of the Loue was formerly used for the operation of a mill. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the primary sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are almost no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road N83, which runs from Besançon Lons -le- Saunier. Further road links exist with Mesmay and Chay.
