Geographical Location

Burgebrach considered as the eastern gate of the Steigerwald at the confluence of the Middle Ebrach in the Rauhenebrach. It is located on the highway 22 halfway between Bamberg and Ebrach.

Burgebrach borders ( from the north clockwise beginning ) to Lisberg, Walsdorf, Stegaurach Frensdorf, Pommersfelden, Mühlhausen ( district of Erlangen - Hochstadt ), key box, Burgwindheim and Schönbrunn im Steigerwald.

History

The first name of the town in 1023 was Urbs Ebraha. Emperor Henry II gave him the bishopric of Würzburg, this Burgebrach 1377 sold to the diocese of Bamberg. Burgebrach was mother parish for more than 40 places in the area. The market rights it received on August 21, 1472 by the bishop of Bamberg George of Schaumburg.

1499 had to be built at the request of the bishop three defensive towers, but he issued to the city taxes. On 1 January 1976, the municipality Mönchherrnsdorf ( with Büchelberg and Magdalene Kappel ) followed on 1 January 1978 the municipality Oberharnsbach ( with Unterharnsbach ) and on 1 May 1978, the municipality Ampferbach ( with Dietendorf ).

The municipality was renamed Herrnsdorf on December 25, 1868 in Mönchherrnsdorf.

Culture and sights

Attractions

  • The parish church of St. Vitus was first mentioned in 1154 and started the construction of the tower in the 13th century. In it combine Gothic and Baroque elements. A cultivation dates back to 1923. Söllner Abbot William of the zisterze Ebrach commissioned in 1730 Balthasar Neumann to design a new building for the conservation of the tower and choir.
