Cademène

Cademène is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Cademène is located on 409 m above sea level, about 15 km south of the city of Besançon (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on a terrace about 100 m above the river Loue, on the eastern slope of the height of Épeugney.

The area of ​​3.39 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the cuesta landscape of western French Jura. The eastern border is the Loue, which here flows in spiral running through a deeply carved into the surrounding plateau erosion valley to the southwest. The slopes are traversed in different places of striking Kalkfelswänden, including the Roches Chaillet below the village ( with the cave system Grotto of Chaillets ). From the river, the municipality's area extends westward across the terrace of Cademène up on the adjacent height of Sur le Mouret and Croix des Echaulles. Here the highest elevation of Cademène is achieved with 515 m.

Neighboring communities of Cademène are Épeugney in the north, Scey- Maisières and Cléron in the east, the south and Amondans Rurey in the West.

History

The territory of Cademène was settled very early. The earliest evidence dates back to the Bronze Age; from the Iron Age comes a tumulus in which valuable earrings was found during excavations. Today Cademène is a member of the 24 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays d' Ornans.

Population

With 87 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Cademène is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. During the 20th century the population was always in the range of about 50 people. Only since the early 1970s, population growth was recorded.

Economy and infrastructure

Cademène was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are almost no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the secondary road D473 which leads from Besançon Levier.
