Charles Dayan

Charles Dayan ( born July 8, 1792 in Amsterdam, Montgomery County, New York; † 25 December 1877 in Lowville, Lewis County, New York) was an American lawyer and politician.

Career

Dayan was graduated after at the Lowville Academy, teacher. He fought in the British -American War, where he held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1817 and then practiced in Lowville.

He was a member from 1827 to 1828 at the Senate of New York, where he represented the 5th district. During this time he was elected president pro tempore. In this capacity he served from October 17 to December 31 in 1828 as Acting Vice Governor (English Lieutenant Governor ) of New York. Then he ran as a member of the Democratic-Republican Party for the 22th U.S. Congress, where he worked following his successful election on 4 March 1831 to 3 March 1833. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he belonged from 1835 to 1836 at the New York State Assembly.

Dayan was from 1840 to 1845 as a district attorney (English District Attorney ) of Lewis County operates. Due to his poor health, he then retired from public life but back, but continued his work as a lawyer continued. After his death he was buried in Lowville Rural Cemetery on the.
