Châteauneuf-le-Rouge
Châteauneuf -le- Rouge is a commune with 2109 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bouches -du -Rhône in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.
Geography
The community is located ten kilometers east of Aix -en- Provence. Other neighboring towns are Ste Victoire Gardanne, Meyreuil. The municipality is part of the Communauté d' agglomération du Pays d' Aix. In the north the Cengle plateau forms a natural boundary of the municipality, in the South, this is represented by the river Arc. To the municipality next to Châteauneuf -le- Rouge belongs to the hamlet of La Galinière.
History
In the twelfth century, the village was first mentioned. At that time there was already a chapel. Originally called the village NEGREL or Negreoux. The nickname le- Rouge was the village in 1585, the name was officially used, however, until 1778. The coat of arms of the village was re-discovered in 1977 by accident. The new castle, named after the place was probably the successor of a Roman castrum. For a long time the community of agriculture, including on sheep farming, dependent.

Traffic
Near the village there is a motorway junction. There, the A52 leads to the A8.
